Choose your wedding DJ wisely

By: Darren Barnett

Hiring your wedding reception entertainment could be one of the most important things you will have to do when planning your wedding. Often times hiring a DJ to perform at your wedding reception is one of the last things you will do, but can make or break your big day. Do you know that your DJ has more than 80% of your reception’s success riding on his ability and experience? From announcing you and your bridal party, to walking you and your guest through all the formalities of the evening your DJ has complete control. There are no license needed to become a wedding DJ nor is there any test to pass. Make sure that you hire the right DJ for your event because you only have one shot to get it right. When asked, the number one thing remembered by guest who attended a wedding reception within the last 12 months is how much fun they did or didn’t have at the reception. The entertainment ranked higher than the food, beverages and even how nice the bride looked on her special day.

We recommend that you ask questions and interview each and every DJ company you call. Make sure you are confident with the answers you receive before you make your final decision. Questions like “Are you a full time DJ” are not going to get you the best DJ. Ask questions about their experience, questions like “How many weddings have you done this year?” or “If I were to ask your last bride to rate you from 1 to 10 what do you think she will say?” Ask when their next event is and ask if they would allow you to stop by.

Choose your DJ wisely as it can turn you special day into a total nightmare if your DJ does not have the experience needed to complete your event in a professional and courteous manner.
