Herbal products have a reputation for being safe and allergy free, and an increasing number of people the world over are turning to herbal products.

From weight loss pills to skin care, herbal products are now a multi-billion dollar industry world wide. What is equally true about herbal products is that some herbal products are regulated by food and drug authorities and are monitored like any other drug. To better understand the reasons behind the phenomenal success of herbal products, it is important to understand the various factors that have contributed to the success of herbal products:
Made from age old wisdom.

Some herbal products are made from ingredients that have been used by tribes and ethnic groups for centuries. Unlike modern day medicine that works on creating new substances and then testing them, herbal products are made from ingredients that have been in use in different parts of the world for a long time. Appetite suppressants like Hoodia have been used by tribes in Africa for various purposes and it was only recently that the diet suppressant capabilities of Hoodia were discovered.

No need for clinical trials
It is important to note that unlike pharmaceutical drugs, herbal products require very little or no clinical testing. The side effects of almost all herbal products have been studied and documented. In fact, the herbal medicine systems of China and India are so well developed that there are ancient texts that describe the ill effects of various herbal remedies, and this is why herbal products rarely require clinical testing and trials. In addition, not all herbal products have to be approved by food and drug authorities before being sold.

Hypo-allergic
There is no denying that there are a few side effects associated with herbal products but compared to allopathic medicines, herbal products have very little or no side effects whatsoever. People that have sensitive skin are advised to use herbal products to ensure their skin remains free from the side effects associate with synthetic products. Nature has substitutes for a variety of modern day skin care products, and this is why leading cosmetic companies the world over have started blending synthetic products with natural plant extracts (like Aloe) to create allergy free skin care products.

Apart from skin care products, other herbal products like diet suppressants, carbohydrate blockers, and dietary supplements are also allergy free. In essence, herbal products have a reputation for being allergy free and safe to use for almost all skin types and individuals.

Unfortunately, there are organizations and websites that are selling spurious herbal products that have very little or no therapeutic value whatsoever.

Food and drug authorities the world over are cracking down on organizations that are selling fake herbal products, but is it is important for users to be aware of the problem also, and it is always a good idea to buy herbal products from established websites or from reputed stores that can back the authenticity of the products they sell.

Herbal skin care products
One of the oldest known applications of herbal products and plant extracts is for skin care. Herbal skin care products are made using a variety of plant extracts like Aloe, Green Tea and Algae and are designed to work on the skin using different techniques. Aloe acts as an anti-ageing and moisturising agent, where as Green tea extracts help invigorate the skin while gently exfoliating it. Herbal skin care products can take care of a variety of skin conditions like dimpling, wrinkling and age lines. Apart from offering a hypo-allergic solution to modern day skin care products, herbal skin care products also help reduce cellulite. As mentioned earlier, the biggest advantage of herbal skin care products is that they do not require any clinical trials or tests before launch.
